Foods to Avoid with Braces
These are examples of foods to avoid while wearing braces. Just because a food is not on the list does not mean that you can eat it. Use your common sense.
Do Not Eat Sticky Foods Such As:
Gum (of any kind) Caramel Taffy Licorice Jelly beans Chewy candy bars with caramel or nuts Starbursts Airheads Tootsie rolls Now and Laters Fruit roll ups Skittles
Do Not Eat Hard Foods Such As:
Hard taco shells Regular Doritos Nuts Popcorn Ice Cubes Hard pizza crusts Hard crusts on french or garlic bread Peanut Brittle Granola cereal or bars Hard crackers or cookies Pretzels Fritos/Tostitos/Nachos Bagels
You May Still Enjoy:
Soft taco shells Thin Potato chips Cheese Yogurt (without nuts) Melon Reese's Pieces Plain M&M's 3-D Doritos Grapes Light crackers (Ritz or Saltines) Bananas Corn and Cheese Puffs Three Musketeers Donuts Regular Chocolate Bars Creamy Peanut Butter
Most meats, fruits, and vegetables are allowed. Do be careful with apples, raw carrots, celery, peaches, plums and any meat that is on the bone. They must be cut into small pieces or thin strips before eating.
Warning: Failure to follow this advice will result in broken brackets and bent wires. This will prolong treatment time. As long as there is a loose bracket the tooth will not move. If a broken bracket does occur please contact our office immediately and we will be happy to see you for an emergency appointment.
